Scientists in the Meyerowitz lab and Center for Advanced Methods in Biological Image Analysis are seeking to see and analyse three dimensional plant cells embedded in plant volumes. This involves the challenging task of identifying the boundaries of individual cells within arrays of two dimensional microscope images.

In our collaboration, we sought to enable researchers to overcome the limitations of a 2D interface while giving a sense of cell edge location, completion, and quality control.

We created a web based tool, that allows users to identify cell boundaries by brushing across tandem views of intersecting 2D slices within a carefully crafted 3D context with immediate result feedback.
